Though, that said, we’ve found some solutions are working and we are pushing harder now to test their resilience. We are five years into our intensive urban farming and focusing heavily on soil management, harvest and delivery of rich, nutritious produce.
Using the Community Supported Agriculture method (CSA) our produce is delivered, or picked up, by our farm share members, who support us by purchasing shares for the season. This has continually enabled us for 3 years of our operation, to engaging our low-income community with good food.
Before Covid lockdown restrictions, each month, we were able to bring a local market right into the lobby of a Toronto Community Housing building. With our Foodshare Toronto partnership, who support local community markets all year round, we were able to bring produce to those who cannot, or do not have the ability to travel to, buy groceries.
So simply, during the growing season, our farm share members give us the ability to subsidize the produce cost that we grow.
Nutrient rich, freshly harvested, locally grown, locally distributed.
This is our goal, this is our journey.
